Moondrop

Moondrop is a company that specializes in the research & development of Hi-Fi earphones. They have been in the industry since 2014 but the Moondrop brand was established in 2015. In the first years, the Moondrop team focused only on earbud design and later added IEMs to their product line-up. By using new technologies and launching successful products, they managed to become a formidable company in the market in a short time.

For more, you can check their Official Website. You can also check our Moondrop reviews here. There’s also an Official Moondrop Store on Aliexpress, which contains all of their products. They also share all of the news and content on their Facebook page. You can buy the Starfield 2 from HiFiGo.

Starfield 2

The Moondrop Starfield 2 is the company’s new Budget-Fi IEM which contains a single dynamic driver from lithium-lagnesium alloy. Moondrop claims that this new driver provides great rigidity and is lighter in weight, compared to previous dynamic drivers. They also claim that it suppresses unnecessary resonance and improves the treble performance of the Starfield 2.

The Starfield 2 has an Iridescent finish, identical to the original Starfield. It features a new-generation Brass CNC-milled acoustic nozzle design with a gold-plated surface finish, high-density structure, and easily replaceable acoustic filters. The actual shell is a cast alloy CNC-milled material.

We have a detachable cable design with universal 2-pin 0.78mm connectors. It is a high-purity stock cable, consisting of high-quality silver-plated copper wire cores.

Package

The IEMs come in a very simple and cost-effective packaging, which is a rectangular cardboard box. After sliding open the package, you will find the IEMs, ear tips, a carrying case, and some paperwork. The ear tips are standard silicone ones, and there is nothing unusual about them. Although the Stellaris offered more ear-tip selections of higher quality, these tips also get the job done quite well. The carrying case is also quite nice for the money spent. You also get bass boost plugs to use on the air vent inside.

Design & Build Quality

I must say, that Moondrop has done a great job with this IEM in design and build. It is made entirely of aluminium and looks slick with its sky-themed design. I believe that Moondrop has some of the best-designed IEMs available in the budget market today.

The build quality is quite impressive. The weight of the shells feels like something you’d find in a premium IEM. The nozzles are brass, as previously mentioned, and they have grills inside to protect against earwax and possibly provide acoustic filtering.

The 2-pin sockets are slightly recessed but have been crafted perfectly. The connection between the faceplate and shell is flawless. I’m also quite impressed with the cable. To be honest, it looks and feels like the kind of high-quality cable that comes with higher-end budget IEMs. Considering the beautiful craftsmanship, assertive design, build, and cable of this IEM, I believe it deserves praise. The shell design, in particular, is impressive.

Fit

Nowadays we see a lot of universal IEMs with semi-custom-designed shells, yet the Moondrop Starfield 2 is not one of them. This one has a unique shape with very smooth lines. I found the fit to be excellent overall. The design of the shells is very ergonomic for a comfortable experience.

The Stellaris, for example, wasn’t all that good in this regard, with its very unorthodox shape which is bigger and not this smooth. The Starfield 2 however doesn’t have that problem. I only tested the IEM with its provided stock tips by the way. You can improve the fit experience even more by using higher-quality aftermarket tips.
